Sustainable drainage solutions are not a new concept. In fact sustainable drainage (SuDS) is our attempt to mimic how nature deals with rainfall and the resulting run-off. Our recent tradition has failed to take advantage of nature. We have constructed drainage that collects surface water and disposes of it through underground pipes that discharge back to our rivers and streams away from our homes. This is not sustainable; removing a problem at one location and moving it elsewhere. To be sustainable we need a different approach. We have collected information on SuDS schemes from across Wales so that you can find examples of what can be done in your own “backyard”. We are continually adding to this collection and invite you to send your own examples.
