Today we will see the Flooding Prevention for New Developments Bill move to the second reading stage in the House of Commons.
The Bill was proposed as a Private Members Bill by Mark Spencer, MP for Sherwood and was introduced on 4th February 2014.
The Bill seeks to require Highways Authorities to include flooding prevention schemes during the construction of new schemes and for connected purposes.
During the first reading of the Bill, Mark Spencer MP highlighted the flooding issues that can be caused by surface water entering the sewer system, and suggests that some of the issues related to surface water drainage could be solved by working in a more integrated manner with the Highways Authorities.
There is currently no draft of the Bill available to suggest whether it is proposed to extend to Wales. The progress of the Bill and associated documentation can be found on the Parliamentary website.
